Seminaries and Schools of Theology

Church Divinity School of the Pacific

CDSP is the only Episcopal seminary in west of the Rocky Mountains. In addition to the seminary, they offer continuing education through the Center for Anglican Learning and Life (CALL).

Vancouver School of Theology

VST provides continuing education through the Chalmers Institute. They are known for their Summer School, which offers two week courses at the Th. M. level, and for their Diploma and Certificate programs in Christian Spirituality. VST also hosts the Native Ministries Consortium Summer School.

Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry

Seattle University sponsors the Continuing Education Network (CEN), which hosts the Theological Colloquium and publishes a quarterly newsletter listing a wide variety of continuing education events throughout the Puget Sound area and beyond. Seattle University's Home Page is here, or you can go directly to the School of Theology and Ministry. Look also at their 'Scripture and Leadership Training' [SALT] program, which can be found through this same link. It is a great program for folks who want to do basic scripture study and deal with it's relationship to their lives and implications for their ministries

Graduate Theological Union

The GTU is a consortium of interdependent theological schools, affiliated centers, and program units joined in a venture of faith in God, one another, and the future. It is a faith and learning community of Protestant and Roman Catholic schools committed to a partnership with one another, with Orthodox, Jewish, Buddhist, and other centers of learning, and with the University of California, Berkeley. At the GTU, theological education is rooted in the study of sacred texts, spiritual and intellectual disciplines, and pastoral formation.

Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction Training Programs

The Priory Spirituality Center

Listening with the Spirit: Formation in the Art of Spiritual Direction. This is a two-year experiential formation program for those interested in discerning a call to the ministry of spiritual direction. This and other programs described on their website.

Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland

Seeking God in the 21st Century and Education for Spiritual Direction. This is a three-year curriculum designed for serious seekers, educators in the church, and those seeking education in spiritual direction. Facilitated the The Rev. Canon Marianne Wells Borg, with additional guest speakers serving the curriculum. More info.

Vancouver School of Theology

Pacific Jubilee Program. This is a two-year spiritual formation program for those interested in discerning a call to the ministry of spiritual direction. For information contact http://www.vst.edu/chalmers/pjp.php .

UMC Academy for Spiritual Formation

During each two-year academy, a total of sixteen courses are offered. These courses offer insights into the history and development of Christian Spirituality. Over the course of the two years, two topics per session are examined. Topics include "The Spirituality of the Psalms," "Early Christian Spirituality," "Healing and Wholeness," and more.

Education for Ministry (EFM)

Education for Ministry, affectionately known as EFM, is a program of theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology of the University of the South. Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year program. It covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. Students meet regularly, usually once a week, in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors. The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year's work.
