“Standing with the Living Stones of Israel and Palestine” Conference

A broad consortium of Christians who are concerned with the plightand declining population of their fellow believers in the Holy Land will present aconference, “Standing with the Living Stones of Israel and Palestine,” in Seattle April 18-19.

The conference will be at University Christian Church during the day on Friday, April 18, and then at the University Presbyterian Church for the Friday evening banquet and daytime program Saturday, April 19.

One of the keynoters will be Dr. Bernard Z. Sabella, a Catholic layman affiliated with the Middle East Council of Churches and professor of sociology at Bethlehem University.

Other keynoters will be The Rev. Jane Barron of the Church of Scotland, immediate past pastor of St. Andrew’s Church, Jerusalem, and Mr. Sami Awad, a Baptist and director of The Holy Land Trust.

Other major presenters include The Rev. Dr. Fahed Abu-Akel, who was the first Palestinian-born person to head a major U.S. denomination, the Presbyterian Church (USA), and Khadr El-Yateem, a Bethlehem native who now is pastor of an Arabic Lutheran church in Brooklyn.

The Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel, Bishop of Olympia, is an honorary co-chair,as is The Rev. Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick, stated clerk of the Presbyterian Church (USA); Pastor David C. Wold, bishop emeritus of the SW Washington Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and The Rev. Dr. Sanford Brown, head of the Church Council of Greater Seattle.

Saint Mark’s Cathedral is a co-sponsor, as is the Episcopal Bishop’s Committee for Israel/Palestine, which convened the first organizing meeting after being encouraged by The Rev.
