Diane Butler Bass

St. Margaret's Church
Bellevue
9:30 AM - 9:30 PM
June 3, 2008

Diana Butler Bass is an author, speaker, and independent scholar specializing in American religion and culture. She is author of six books, including “Christianity for the Rest of Us”, released in 2006 and named one of the best religion books of the year by Publishers Weekly. It won Book of the Year Award from the Academy of Parish Clergy, and was featured in a cover story in USA Today.

While accepted wisdom has been that America’s mainline Protestant churches are in decline, eclipsed by evangelical mega-churches, Diana’s three year study of centrist and progressive churches across the country revealed just the opposite. Many churches are flourishing, and they are doing so without resorting to mimicking the mega-church, evangelical style.

She will offer a how-to approach for those of us eager to remain faithful to our Episcopal tradition while becoming a vital spiritual community. She discovered consistent practices in her study—such as hospitality, contemplation, diversity, justice, discernment, and worship as core expressions of congregations seeking to rediscover authentic Christian faith and witness today.
Her message is a hopeful one, for clergy and lay leaders alike, don’t miss this opportunity to spend a day with Diana Butler-Bass.
